I like layout #1 too. It's more engaging. A white background would work - what about alternating white and black so the frame colour is opposite? So the top left rose right now would have black around it - the one to the right of it would have white. Good luck. This is a great quilt to look at from afar and close up:)
I also like number two. I like the secondary star that is made in the white area. I think it isn't obvious to everyone because the blocks are not all evenly spaced and correctly oriented in the picture as they would be in the finished top.
looking good, I like view #1. View 2 looks disorgized with the white around the rose block. You might want to place the dark red or maybe a very light gray behind the rose block and see what is looks like. The white looks fine but maybe a little contrast to define the blocks more. What are the corner stone border blocks going to be. Hope this helps, good luck and looking forward to seeing more next week.
#1. Wide white sashing about the b'w blocks--then a narrow black to make them pop. A white sashing and setting squares to float your whole top. Then maybe a black border with a narrow red "flap" sewn into it. If you don't understand--I will take a picture, pictures are so much easier to understand! I think it's going to be stunning!
Layout 1. I love it! And the roses surrounded by white works just fine. Layout 2 didn't catch my eye nearly as quickly.
ReplyDeleteI like layout #1, and if you do that layout the white blocks already have something around them with no need for more.

ReplyDeleteLayout one is very nice. It is the one I would do. Great quilt!
ReplyDeleteLov'in layout #1
ReplyDeleteI agree layout #1--more movement
ReplyDeleteLayout One with white around the roses! Looks like it's unanimous!
ReplyDelete#1
ReplyDeleteHmm, I prefer layout 2, but darned if I can articulate why. Here from JudyL's design wall monday.

ReplyDeleteI like #1 better and I would put a bold black and white stripe around the rose blocks.
ReplyDeleteI like #1 because I really like on point quilts. Around the roses, maybe black polka dots on white?
ReplyDeleteLayout 1 . . .I would use red and white or red and black and do a double frame around those squares.
ReplyDeleteLayout #1. I like the blocks on point.
